With over 150,000 people due to attend the Grand National at Aintree over the three days and a whopping 77,000 due to attend on the main day itself, it’s easy to see why the grand national is great for business. An even bigger estimated worldwide audience of over 600 million people will also tune in to watch the Grand National live on television.
Aintree on Merseyside clearly benefits from a spike in visitors with local businesses expecting to cash in yet again on the event which won the Regional Tourism Award of the year in 2011.
Hospitality in the area such as Hotels are fully booked well in advance meaning great sales for both the corporate hotel and smaller boutique hotels and bed and breakfasts in the area. Restaurants are also booked well in advance with table bookings at the highest level for the year.
The Grand National also offers a boost for a whole host of other businesses in the area such as retail shops, taxi firms and local attractions such as museums and tourist attractions in Liverpool. All take full advantage of the incredible foot-fall on offer over the three-day event.
Then there is ladies day at Aintree. As you can imagine the demand for the services of beauty salon’s, hair and makeup, fake tanning, nail technician’s, dress hire, dressmakers and fashion shops in the area where sales over the period literally go through the roof.
Even if your business is not within the immediate radius of The Grand National or even in the North West for that matter you can still capitalise on the event in your own way. Look at joining in on the marketing theme of the Grand National, produce a marketing event of your own which you can push on social media perhaps.
If you are in the hospitality sector such as a restaurant for example maybe there could be a signature dish that your chef could theme in for the weekend perhaps. Photograph the dish and distribute on Facebook, Twitter and Instagram. Check out the tweet below to see how easy this can be:
